CCQ organizes a lecture on student rights and duties

The Community College of Qatar (CCQ) recently organized a lecture entitled “Student Rights and Duties,” at the College’s Lusail Campus. The two-day event saw a huge interaction from CCQ students as it discussed many key points, including their rights and duties, the services provided to them, and the College’s policies and regulations that they should abide by.

During the lecture, which was presented by Dr. Nassima Bousselah, a faculty member at CCQ’s Languages and Literature Department, students were enlightened on their rights at the College, such as access to quality education, academic and career advising, protection, and the privacy of their personal information. The lecture also examined students’ duties towards the College, which mainly dealt with their code of conduct, such as respecting all CCQ community members, acting in line with the College’s vision and message, and following its dress code in conformity with the Qatari traditions and culture. Furthermore, the students were apprised of the services offered to them throughout their educational journey at CCQ, at the forefront of which is the academic advising and counseling provided by the Student Affairs Division. Other services presented to students included library services, safety and security facilities, the privileges that graduates are entitled to, and student sponsorship opportunities by local companies in both the government and private sectors in Qatar.

Shedding light on the student rights guaranteed by the College’s Counseling and Advising Department, Mr. Ghaith Al-Ajami, an academic advising expert, said that the department assists students regarding the academic offerings available and the conditions for transferring to other colleges and universities included in the transfer articulation agreements with CCQ.  He added that advising experts guide students through the different degree programs’ study plans and instruct them on how to align their study with both their academic and career goals. On the importance of the lecture to students, Al-Ajami noted that it gives students an all-rounded overview of their rights and duties in order to be fully aware of them.

To explore CCQ students’ views of the lecture, Abd Al-Aziz Al-Tairy, a student of the Logistics and Supply Chain Management program, said, “The lecture was so useful to me, in that I learned about my rights and the College’s policies, including those about class attendance and absence. In addition, we were informed about the services offered by the College, such as healthcare, student sponsorship opportunities, and services for graduates.”
As for Jabr Al-Mannai, a student of the same program, he explained that the lecture acquainted him with the conditions to appeal against disciplinary decisions and to submit complaints against such decisions. He added that he benefited a lot from the questions asked by his peers at the end of the lecture, as some of them touched upon the class absence limit, as well as class attendance regulations.

It is worth noting that the “Questions and Answers” part of the event witnessed many students inquiring about the College’s policies, while others participated with their recommendations, such as offering more academic programs and concentrations.
