CCQ and GU-Q launch joint Cyber Security Research Group (CSRG)

The Community College of Qatar (CCQ) has recently organized a public lecture featuring a panel of experts under the title “Cyber Security: Protecting the Homeland”, in collaboration with Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q). The event marked the official launch of the two education institutions’ co-founded Cyber Security Research Group (CSRG) – a joint venture developed to address increasing cybersecurity risks at the individual, organizational, and governmental levels.
Sponsored by Commercial Bank of Qatar (CBQ), the lecture featured keynote speaker Andrew Wilson, one of the UK’s leading cybersecurity experts, with over three decades of experience as a military officer and security consultant. The event’s expert panel also included the CSRG’s co-chairs, Professor of Government at GU-Q Dr. Rory Miller and Chair of the Information Technology Program at CCQ Dr. Mohammed Al-Dorani.

Addressing the audience, CCQ President Dr. Mohamed Al-Naemi said:
“Through our gathering tonight, and many more collaborations in the future, CCQ and GUQ – through our Cyber Security Research Group – are effectively enhancing knowledge in the field of cybersecurity and its impact on national security and various key infrastructures. We foresee the work of the group bringing attention and solutions to issues that would not only enhance awareness, but also bear positive change towards the prosperity and development of Qatar.”

He added: “The Information Technology programs started at the College in fall 2015, hosting around 30 students and have significantly grown to over 250 students who are qualified to power and further develop the critical ICT infrastructure of Qatar, today, tomorrow, and beyond. I would like to thank Georgetown for relentlessly working with us to make this event a success, and the Commercial Bank for its generous support as this event’s partner.”

Alongside Dr. Mohamed Al-Naemi, the lecture was attended by GU-Q Dean Dr. Ahmad Dallal, CBQ’s Chief Operating Officer Dr. Leonie Ruth Lethbridge, and an elite group of cybersecurity experts, academics, and industry stakeholders.
