CCQ organizes Public High School's Academic Advisors' Orientation Day

Aiming to familiarize secondary school students of the College, the Community College of Qatar (CCQ) organized the Public High School's Academic Advisors' Orientation Day 2019-2020 at Lusail Campus, in which it hosted academic advisors from across public schools in Qatar. The event featured several presentations and explanatory videos to introduce the academic advisors to the College’s vision and mission, its developmental phases, academic programs, and admission requirements, among other points.

Addressing the audience, CCQ Vice-President Dr. Khalid Al Abdulqader, said: The CCQ comes at the forefront of institutes of higher education in Qatar that offer associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs that were specially tailored to meet the local market demand of a highly-skilled national workforce across all fields in tune with the economic goals of Qatar’s National Vision 2030. The College now enjoys a high student enrollment ratio as it currently has over 5000 male and female students in its various campuses. This is because the CCQ provides a great deal of flexibility in the learning process for its students and paves the way for both full-time and part-time students to join their morning and night classes.”

Maryam Al-Ryami, head of Admission Section, emphasized the significance of the  event in helping secondary school students define their academic paths, saying: “Today’s meeting is centered on familiarizing secondary school students with the variety of disciplines and academic programs CCQ offers in all fields of study including art and science. In the coming meetings, we hope to shift our focus to include students enrolled in all high school phases in order to help them formulate a clear vision of their academic trajectories early on.”

Conveying a message to academic advisors, Al-Ryami said: “We hope that you can assist us as academic advisors in introducing your students to the College and the different degree programs available. We also hope that you always keep in touch with us in case you have any questions.”

Salama Al-Marri, academic advisor at Al Wakra Independent Secondary School for Girls, highlighted that the event was crucial for her to learn more about the CCQ’s academic offerings in both associate's and bachelor's degrees. She also added that she became more aware of the College’s admission requirements, hoping the College would  consider admitting residents as well.

Ahmad Al-Dayat, academic advisor at Nasser bin Abdullah al Attiyah Independent Secondary School for Boys, appreciated CCQ efforts to attract secondary school students, adding that he gained valuable information about the College, which he will be communicating to his students.

By the end of the event, the College’s officials addressed the audience’s inquiries which spanned a variety of aspects, including the cases where fees may apply, such as withdrawal from courses or semesters. In addition, some of the questions covered the local and international educational institutions where the College students can continue their studies based on articulation agreements, as well as their admission requirements.
