CCQ hosts actor Ghazi Hussein

The Community College of Qatar (CCQ) organized a public session with the Qatari actor Ghazi Hussein, which was held at the College’s West Bay Campus, as part of the Theatre Arts Program’s events and activities. The event saw many people attending, including CCQ students, members of the academic staff, and visitors who enjoyed and actively participated in the discussion that was moderated by presenter Ebtisam Al-Hobail. The session addressed the Qatari actor’s 50 years of wide acting experience in radio, theater, and TV. As part of the event's activities, the Liberal Arts Division’s management of the event also honored the actor.

Addressing the audience, the actor talked about a plenty of aspects, including the beginning of his career as a presenter in Qatar radio, the radio and TV plays that he did, and his participation in children’s shows. In addition, Hussein shed light on his upbringing in the conservative society of the Gulf, his parents’ impact on his career, and how his choice of roles which were socially acceptable and palatable to his audience was the result of his conservative upbringing.
According to Ali Hussain, acting and directing student in the Theatre Arts Program: “The session was both entertaining and informative. As students, we benefited a great deal from his expertise in the acting and theater fields. In particular, I was personally influenced by his sense of responsibility towards the society and his self-criticism. Definitely, these traits acted as his moral compass in playing the roles that educate the audience and be in tandem with their traditions. Therefore, after our graduation we will also be self-critical of our own art work before releasing it to the audience.”

Hiya al-Salhi, graduate of the Theatre Arts Program, stressed that the event was crucial for her, being passionate about theater and arts, as it introduced her to one of the most prominent actors in both Qatar and the gulf in order to learn more from his valuable expertise. She also highlighted the importance of learning form the essential experiences of experts in these fields.

For his part, Hussein discussed the significance of these events for students, saying: “I was pleased by attending this event organized by CCQ to communicate my own experience in media and acting, hoping that I was successful in relaying my thoughts to the youth to nurture their thirst for knowledge.”

He elaborated: “Today’s event reflects CCQ realization of the significance of communication and conveying diverse personal experiences, since this process saves a lot of time and effort for the next generation. I hope that the audience would profit from the varied challenges and situations which contributed to molding my career.”

Following the end of the session, the actor addressed CCQ students’ inquiries about several topics including discussing social issues in art works, his view on the current Qatari arts’ arena, and the role of parental guidance in his career.
