CCQ organizes “Aware Youth for Better Health”

Further encouraging students’ contributions in the field of nutritional awareness, the Science and Math Department at the Community College of Qatar, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), recently held an exhibition entitled “Aware Youth for Better Health.” The event, which took place at Al Mazrouah Yard, Umm Salal, aimed at providing the CCQ students with a hands-on experience by applying the theories they learned in the field in order to improve their learning outcomes.

The exhibition was opened by Dr. Faycal Ben Adda, acting chair of Sciences and Math Department at CCQ, and Dr. Majid Ibrahim, faculty member at CCQ and chair of the Al Mazrouah Organizing Committee. The exhibition attracted a large number of visitors, featuring male and female students’ creative projects on healthy and nutrient-rich food dishes. The event’s activities also included food-tasting tests, cooking some healthy recipes, and conducting public presentations on the importance of various nutrients. Students also distributed leaflets they designed among attendees to educate them on healthy food and urge them to follow a healthy diet in order reduce risks of chronic disease, such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

For his part, Dr. Ibrahim stressed that the purpose behind the exhibition was to pave the way for the CCQ students to unleash their creativity by the practical manifestation of what they have been taught on the basics of nutrition in unique projects. These included spreading raising social awareness by showcasing samples of healthy recipes, cooking healthy dishes, and dispersing booklets on healthy diet and eating habits to visitors.
