Open dialogue on ‘When I Remember the Past’ exhibition reminiscing about Msheireb’s past

The Community College of Qatar (CCQ), in collaboration with Msheireb Museums, organized an open dialogue between renowned Qatari artist Mr. Yousef Ahmed and his fellow compatriot, writer Dr. Marzouq Bashir on distinctive literary and artistic works at the Mohammed Bin Jassim House in Msheireb.

The discussion was in line with Mr. Yousef’s exhibition entitled ‘When I Remember the Past’ and attracted CCQ students, staff and faculty, as well as members of the general public. Following the discussion, participants were given a tour of the exhibition.

Yousef Ahmed explained that the exhibition reflects the traditional Qatari environment, its tranquility, and the kindness of its people, and that the title of the exhibition is derived from a song by Ibrahim Habib of the same name, which was written by Dr. Marzouq Bashir.

Commenting on the event, Dr. Marzooq Bashir, Professor of Drama and Theater Criticism, CCQ, explained that the exhibition location in Msheireb meant to invoke nostalgia for old places the artist lived in: “Yousef Ahmed drew from his memory the colors of places, house walls, and narrow alleys, as if people still dwelled in them. He signed a deed with time and place, and painted it with his own brush.”

The event highlights the emphasis that CCQ places on Qatar’s rich heritage and creating opportunities for its students to actively participate in the preservation, development and sustainability of local culture and traditions.

Yousef Ahmad is an artist, art adviser, collector, writer and educator in the art field and a leading figure of Qatar's cultural development, regularly representing his country at international exhibitions and events.

Dr. Marzooq Bashir is currently a Professor of Drama and Theater Criticism at CCQ and is well-known for his contributions to the Arabic music scene as a songwriter.
