CCQ organizes Academic Advising Forum for secondary schools

The Community College of Qatar (CCQ) recently organized the Academic Advising Forum for Secondary Schools, to introduce CCQ’s scientific majors and academic programs in Arabic and English, and to discuss the flexibility, diversity, conditions, and admission requirements for each major. 50 academic counselors, representing 49 secondary schools participated.

The Forum was attended by CCQ’s Dr. Mustafa Al-Khawaldeh, Acting Dean of the Student Affairs Division, Ghaith Al-Ajmi, Acting Activities and Alumni Department Manager, Mohammed Khenyab, Acting Head of Corporate Sponsorship section, and Ahmed Al-Balam, Head of Academic Counseling and Career Department. Also, attending were mentors from Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education that included Abdullah Sultan Al-Mulla, Haitham Mohammad Kozal, Zaher Ahmed Al-Askar and Fawzia Abdullah Al-Malki.

On this occasion, Dr. Al-Khawaldeh, stressed the importance of meeting with academic counselors for secondary schools and the cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to gain better understanding of the various majors offered by CCQ, university admission requirements, registration dates, and other information that helps them support and guide male and female secondary  students to choose the scientific or technical major that suits their abilities and aspirations for the future.

Dr. Al-Khawaldeh went on to appreciate efforts made by the academic counselors in secondary schools, and in the education field in general, through the participation of students in advice and assistance in counseling and proper academic guidance in cooperation with their families, and with academic advisors at CCQ. This benefits the students and contributes directly to the development of the human element, which is one of the pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The Academic Advising Forum comes within the framework of CCQ’s Student Affairs Division and its constant endeavors to provide support and development for academic advisors. The purpose is to identify the opportunities offered to students after high school in the college’s distinguished scientific disciplines and specialized academic programs, provide access to internal government scholarship programs, and prepare them for the future so they can meet the needs of the labor market.

Mr. Al-Ajmi, Acting Activities and Alumni Department Manager confirmed that the Forum closely related to the process of recruiting students in secondary schools, by introducing the academic advisors in those schools to CCQ’s strategy, its programs, the mechanisms put in place for accepting students, the number of admissions per academic year, and so on.

He further added: “The forum also aims to answer questions and inquiries of academic advisors, especially since they are the main link in guiding students during the secondary stage to build their university future. We, in turn, complete this cycle by providing them with academic advantages, from renewable scientific disciplines, and academic courses offered - in the morning and evening periods - as well as the proximity of the college campuses, and how they were adapted to cover the needs of the college and its students. This is what sets CCQ apart from other the rest of the educational institutions.”

The Forum also included a tour of the college’s new Lusail campus and its multi-use facilities. The guests also listened to introductory presentations by CCQ’s Student Affairs officials, which included the college’s academic vision, scientific mission, and future strategy.  At the end of the day, participating schools were honored.

After the two-day Forum, Mr. Khenyab, said: “The first day was devoted to the counselors of the boys’ schools, and the second day to the counselors of the girls’ schools. The topics and contents of the Forum included CCQ’s admission policies, the placement tests, and the available academic programs.”
