CCQ’S Environment and Astronomy Club initiates Al-Farkiya Beach clean-up with FEC

Recently, the Environment and Astronomy Club at the Community College of Qatar (CCQ) partnered with the Friends of the Environment Center (FEC) to lead a local beach clean-up campaign. This campaign was aimed at restoring the pristine beauty of Al-Farkiya Beach in Al-Khor City. The initiative drew an impressive turnout of 60 dedicated volunteers that included CCQ students and staff and was led by experienced guides. Dr. Majed Ibrahim, the CCQ Club’s supervisor, spearheaded the initiative which was in line with the Student Activities Section’s ongoing mission to raise awareness about the importance of public cleanliness and supporting related endeavors.

The participants collected the maximum amount of waste dumped along Al-Farkiya Beach and meticulously followed the instructions provided by FEC and public safety guidelines.

A competition was also held for the best volunteers during the campaign. CCQ students Eman Al-Kuwari, Dana Al-Dosari, and Fatima Jamal won the competition along with Edward Santoro, a college employee.

Mohammed Ahmad Al Khenji, FEC’s Deputy Executive Director, warmly welcomed the campaign, emphasizing its vital significance in promoting environmental protection and sustainable living. He expressed his deep appreciation towards CCQ for its unwavering efforts in raising awareness about the crucial role of beaches in safeguarding the natural environment and preserving public places from pollution and waste.

Dr. Majid reiterated the importance of volunteering and awareness campaigns to familiarize CCQ’s students and staff with their social and environmental responsibilities and fostering sustainability. This is particularly relevant in light of Qatar’s focus on environmental sustainability as a key pillar of nation-building, as outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030.

He went on to highlight that the campaign’s participants were guided by CCQ’s vision of making an impactful contribution toward achieving sustainable development in Qatar.
