CCCQ students visit Al Sharq newspaper to learn about content and news production

As part of its extracurricular activities and efforts to prepare students for the job market, the Community College of Qatar (CCQ) has organized a student visit to the headquarters of Al Sharq newspaper. The tour, led by the Associate Professor of Media Studies at the College Dr. Ahmed Abdul Malik, brought together students enrolled in the “Introduction to Mass Communication” course.

CCQ organized the event with the aim of introducing students to content and news production as well as the newspaper’s various departments and their functions, as an augmented learning experience to the course’s topics.

During their visit, students listened to a detailed explanation of the newspaper’s production process, the different stages of page-publishing, and the special production techniques and materials used for supplements. The event also addressed the national outlook of Al Sharq newspaper.

In this context, Managing Editor of Al Sharq online news portal Mr. Jassim Salman said that around 80% of the newspaper’s pages are dedicated to local affairs in order to serve the public audience in Qatar, while the electronic version of the paper is more comprehensive and attracts a strong following of more than 50,000 online readers.

Moreover, the visit provided CCQ students with the opportunity to discuss with the newspaper’s heads of departments the mechanisms followed by each department, which is one of the ways the College adds a practical dimension.
