10 Years of Making a Difference in Individuals’ Life and the Community

10 distinguished years have passed since the opening of the Community College of Qatar (CCQ), during which CCQ succeeded in developing a unique model for higher education as well as scientific and institutional excellence in the State of Qatar. All through providing a range of unique educational opportunities and a flexible learning environment for lifelong learning. During this decade, the College has had a pioneering role in providing members of the local community (Qataris and children of Qatari mothers) with the opportunity to pursue their higher education and achieve their academic and professional aspirations. Since it was established by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in 2010 as part of the country’s determined endeavors towards producing an educated population, CCQ has witnessed many developments and achievements over the decade that made a significant contribution to Qatar National Vision 2030, especially where related to the human development pillar. These successes and accomplishments would not have been achieved without Allah’s grace and the continuous support the College receives from HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, as well as the blessings of Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, HH The Father Amir, of the initiative of HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. In addition to its primary focus on the academic excellence, the College is also keen on establishing extracurricular and cultural clubs and organizing community initiatives and activities to engage students and develop their personal and social skills. Moreover, CCQ aims to develop both students’ and faculty members’ skills through offering specialized courses and technical and professional development workshops.

A Decade of Progress and Development

The academic programs CCQ offers have increased significantly during the past 10 years. From two associate’s degree programs to 14 associate’s degree and 6 bachelor’s degree programs, CCQ expanded its academic programs in coordination with various government and private entities to meet the evolving job market needs of specialized Qatari cadres. CCQ offers a wide range of degrees to complement the programs offered by other universities. The College was the first higher education institution in Qatar to offer a BS in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and the first to offer a BS in Cyber & Network Security, as well as the BA in Project Management and the BA in Human Resources Management - both will be inaugurated starting from Fall 2021-2022. At the end of the 2019-2020 academic year, the College’s English Language Center was granted a five-year accreditation by the Commission on English Language Accreditation (CEA), an internationally recognized accrediting agency for English language programs and institutions in the US.
CCQ Timeline

Flexible Learning

Since its inception, the College has been keen on providing students with flexible educational services, starting from the admission until graduation. All throughout, CCQ has been accommodating students’ professional and family commitments. Not only that, but the College was also the first in Qatar to introduce hybrid learning with its inaugural hybrid program, namely the Associate of Business Administration, in Fall 2020-2021. Later on, it developed the flexible learning model to serve a larger segment of the community. The new learning system allows for higher flexibility and helps students manage their time in a way that does not conflict with their responsibilities. It also helps in overcoming geographical barriers, allowing CCQ to hire experts from outside Qatar to work remotely. To this end, CCQ established the Flexible Learning Unit.

CCQ has become the first choice of many community members that the number of enrolled students quickly reached more than 5000 students. The College also expanded geographically to meet the increasing demand for its programs with four campuses distributed to serve the residents across the country. In addition, the College has attracted a group of qualified academic and administrative staff members of high caliber.

Local and International Academic Partnerships

The College has entered into academic partnerships with local and international universities and institutions, including Qatar University, Marian University, DePaul University, as well as companies and enterprises to provide students with competitive opportunities while pursuing their higher education. For example, CCQ signed an MoU with Huawei, the giant global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, to launch its ICT Academy with the aim of developing the local ICT talents.

Alumni

CCQ alumni have played an active role in serving the country through the years. Graduates from the Cyber and Network Security and the Logistics and Supply Chain Management academic programs are currently contributing to the development of the national ICT and logistics infrastructures; both are vital to Qatar’s endeavors to enhance its leading position in these areas while providing investment opportunities to build a knowledge-based society and economy. Hence, the College was able to consolidate its pioneering role in providing qualified national cadres to keep pace with local and global developments while contributing to the actualization of Qatar National Vision 2030.
