Engineering Technology Department announces winners of ‘Top Turbine’ competition
The project ‘Vertical-Axis Wind Turbine with Solar Cells for Powering Light Gadgets – WinSol’ won the ‘Top Turbine’ competition organized by the Engineering Technology Department at the Community College of Qatar (CCQ). The project was developed by CCQ students Shjaa Al-Dosari, Khalid Al-Yafei, Mohammad Al-Naimi, and Hassan Al-Bloshi.

Commenting on the competition, Dr. Faysal Eliyan, Assistant Professor at the Engineering Technology Department, pointed out that 15 students, divided into 5 groups, participated in the competition and submitted 5 designs of wind and/or solar turbines. The designs introduce innovative and sustainable solutions for generating electricity from readily available, eco-friendly and renewable resources suitable for open and camping places, instead of the conventional power sources of oil and fossil fuels.

The other projects included 3D-Printed Multi-Rotor Horizontal Wind Turbine – ATF, Hyper Efficient Vertical Axis Wind Turbine for Small-Scale Power Charging – MTT, and Savonius Type Turbine with Solar Panels for Small Gadget Power Charging – Qatar Green Energy Company.

The competition is part of CCQ’s efforts to promote competitiveness and professionalism among students and to support them in developing marketable and efficient quality projects.
