The Languages and Literature Department provides students with instruction and practice to improve core communication skills required to study at college-level and at their workplaces in the future. The Language and Literature department provides students with instruction and practice to improve core communication skills required to study at college-level and in their workplace in the future. Students develop interdisciplinary skills and knowledge, which will help them in other courses as they progress to associates and higher degrees, leading to professional responsibilities in their careers. Through a range of courses in language, linguistics, and literature, students develop skills in academic reading, writing, research, investigation, listening, speaking, and oral presentation. All will foster development of critical thinking and expression skills. Additionally, the department offers courses in foreign languages, specifically French and Spanish, to assist with students’ understanding and appreciation of other cultures and peoples.
