CCQ Renews MoU with GAC for Internationally Accredited BA in Border Management

The Community College of Qatar (CCQ) announced renewing the MoU with the General Authority of Customs (GAC) to execute the BA in Border Management for GAC’s staff. According to this MoU, the College continues to execute the undergraduate program in cooperation with the Centre for Customs and Excise Studies (CCES) at Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Australia to enhance the academic level of the authority’s employees. The agreement was signed by Dr. Mohamed Al-Naemi, CCQ President, and H.E. Mr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Jamal, GAC Chairman, in the presence of senior officials from both parties.

The MoU states that the program will get academic accreditation from the World Customs Organization and conform to its rules. Under this agreement, the College also guarantees the application of the highest professional standards in teaching as well as selecting advanced scientific, academic, technical and training programs to qualify and develop the Qatari youth talents. Meanwhile, the authority will nominate qualified personnel for joining the BA program if they have already passed the Associate of Applied Sciences in Customs Management that is also executed by CCQ.

Upon this occasion, Dr. Al-Naemi, CCQ President, expressed his pleasure in continuing the cooperation with GAC in this field, saying, “We are proud of our partnership with the General Authority of Customs, and we aim to bring the modern knowledge and skills to our country to become a leader in many vital fields. We have no doubt that this cooperation will benefit all of us; we work with all our energy with our partners to invest in education and human capital to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.”

H.E. Mr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Jamal, GAC Chairman, stated that, “It is our pleasure to execute this specialized program with the Community College of Qatar. The authority was the first in the Middle East to take such a step to enhance the academic side of its staff and contribute towards developing their professional performance and scientific competency. Taking the degree will complement the experience our staff gained during their job at GAC, which will have a positive impact on customs performance during the coming era in the State of Qatar.”

It is worth mentioning that the College signed an MoU with the CCES at Charles Sturt University in Australia in support of the previous agreements concluded by the two parties in 2017. The MoU seeks CCES’ expertise and qualified faculty members who will teach the courses and raise the academic standards of GAC’s workers in order to elevate their professional performance.

The College will execute the program in the Spring Semester of 2021 to accommodate 40 students who have to complete 128 credit hours to pass the BA degree. In addition to applying international standards, the program consists of eight specialized subjects that cover theoretical and field aspects in order to help students develop a deep understanding of the working mechanisms in ports and border management.

Renewing the MoU with GAC comes after the inaugural batch of BA in Border Management graduated in the Spring Semester of 2020; the number of graduates reached 40. As well, the program is certified and licensed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The study will be remote, in accordance with the precautionary measures followed in the country to limit the spread of the Coronavirus, with the possibility to amend the study mechanism starting from the Spring Semester of 2022, in accordance with the latest precautionary measures enforced by the country.
